Composite Geogrid Secures Heavy Tracks on Soft Ground

Project Overview

A primary challenge in infrastructure—from energy sectors to coastal developments—is constructing durable access roads over unstable or marshy terrain. This case study highlights how Changfeng’s integrated geosynthetic systems provided a cost-effective stabilization solution for heavy-vehicle tracks in challenging soft-soil environments.

The Challenge: Soft Soil & Environmental Sensitivity

Poor subgrade CBR (California Bearing Ratio) values and a high water table were characteristics of the project location. Heavy machinery would result in deep rutting and structural failure in the absence of stabilization. Traditional building would have needed:

1.Large-scale excavation involves the removal and replacement of substantial amounts of soft soil.

2.Importing substantial amounts of costly rock and gravel is known as “heavy aggregate costs.”

3.High Maintenance Constant subgrade movement need frequent repairs.

The Changfeng Solution:

The Hybrid Reinforcement System: To optimize performance and lower material costs, our technical team put in place a dual-layer system:

Separation (Changfeng Non-Woven Geotextile): This layer serves as a filter when it is immediately applied to the soft subgrade. In order to preserve the integrity of the road base, it keeps the aggregate from sinking into the ground while permitting water to flow through.

Reinforcement (Changfeng Biaxial Geogrid): which is placed over the geotextile, interlocks with the stones to form a “stiffened platform.”This greatly increases the track’s bearing capacity by efficiently redistributing heavy wheel loads.

Key Outcomes & Value Engineering

40% Aggregate Reduction: The reinforcement allowed for a much thinner stone layer, saving thousands in material and hauling expenses.

Extended Service Life: The interlocking mechanism prevents lateral stone movement, drastically reducing rutting and maintenance.

Rapid Installation: Factory-direct rolls delivered to exact specifications ensured the project was completed ahead of schedule.

Eco-Friendly Construction: Minimized excavation and stone usage significantly reduced the project’s carbon footprint.

Products Highlighted in This Project

1. PP Series High-Performance Biaxial Geogrid

Our biaxial geogrids, which are specifically made for foundation reinforcement and soil stabilization, have a stiff, high-modulus structure that produces an excellent interlock with aggregate materials.

Important characteristics include resistance to chemical and biological deterioration, outstanding aperture stability, and high tensile strength in both longitudinal and transverse directions.

The Benefit: By distributing stress via the “Snowshoe Effect,” it greatly lowers the necessary road base thickness without compromising load-bearing capability.

2. PET/PP High-Strength Non-Woven Geotextile

This geotextile, which is made with cutting-edge needle-punched technology, acts as the vital barrier that separates and filters the subgrade from the stone base.

High elongation capacity to bear installation loads, excellent water permeability, and superior puncture resistance are key features.

The benefit is that it keeps the aggregate layer pure by keeping fine soil particles from moving higher, which guarantees the track’s long-term structural integrity and effective drainage.
